Greenfinch's Tuesday night event for grown-up debate kids and debatable grown-ups.

What is BLDC?

Beer League Debate Club takes the spirit of beer league softball – where grown-up high school athletes get to relive their glory days with a pint nearby – and imports it to a different kind of high school past-time: Debate Club!

What to expect

Sign up begins at 7 pm. First debate is at 7:30.
Topics (or “resolutions”) are drawn 30 minutes before your debate. You can use this time to prep, buy a drink, or both!
Debates last no longer than 30 minutes.
You can debate solo or as a team!
Don't want to debate? Be a judge! We'll provide you with a rubric.

Greenfinch has created a bespoke fast-paced style of debate that borrows all the fun parts from the events you remember from high school. The only requirement is showing up, buying a drink, and coming along for the ride.

Debaters will argue in the affirmative or negative on a variety of topics (or “resolutions”) that range from serious…

“The United States should adopt compulsory voting in federal elections.”

…to silly…

“Despite the Whos accepting and forgiving him, the Grinch should still be prosecuted for his crimes.”

…with construction, cross examination, rebuttal, and closing statements all happening in under 30 minutes!

Do you have a resolution you'd like to have added to the draw pool? Submit it to us below. Remember: all resolutions must be affirmative statements. Example: “America would be better off with a real-life Batman.”
